The beta release of Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 7.1 (JBoss EAP) is now available. JBoss EAP is Red Hat’s middleware platform, built on open standards and compliant with the Java Enterprise Edition 7 specification. JBoss EAP supports a modular structure that provides service enabling only when required, improving startup speed. Included in this minor release are a broad set of updates to existing features. In addition, the beta release provides new functionality in the areas of security, management, HA, and performance, such as a new additional security framework that unifies security across the entire application server, CLI and web console enhancements, and load balancing profile, respectively. Also included are additions to capabilities related to the simplification of components such as a new additional EJB Client library, HTTP/2 support, and the ability to replace the JSF implementation. With these new capabilities, customers can continue to reduce maintenance time and effort, simplify security, and deliver applications faster and more frequently, all with improved efficiency.
Here are some highlights of the JBoss EAP 7.1 Beta release:
Management
- Domain fault tolerance
- JMX notification improvements like automatic reconnection of host controllers using a cached configuration to the domain controller
- The ability to register a listener to be notified of lifecycle server events and custom registration of JMX listeners, respectively
- The ability to view/replace deployment artifacts without re-deployment of an archive
- CLI enhancements
- Suspended-state server start and graceful shutdown
- Web console enhancements
HA/Performance
- HA singleton MDBs
- Load balancing profile
- JCA distributed work manager
Security
The Elytron subsystem is new in JBoss EAP 7.1. Elytron features in JBoss EAP 7.1 are based on the WildFly Elytron project, a security framework used to unify security across the entire application server. The Elytron subsystem enables a single point of configuration for securing both applications and the management interfaces. The Elytron subsystem exists in parallel with the legacy security subsystem and legacy core management authentication. Other security features include:
- Remoting security context propagation
- More security standards support
- Centralized point for SSL/TLS configuration
- Credential store
Component Simplification
- EJB client simplifications
- The ability to replace the JSF implementation
- Batch job management (GUI support)
- Transaction metrics for JMS and JCA resources
- The ability to use absolute file system locations in modules
Modern Web Applications
Red Hat JBoss EAP 7.1 supports HTTP/2 for modern web application development.
